The Arthroscopy Association of North America Advanced Arthroscopy Traveling Fellowship is generously funded by DePuy Mitek and the AANA Education Foundation.

The Arthroscopy Association of North America’s (AANA) Arthroscopy Traveling Fellowship program will continue in the Spring of 2017. Four selected Orthopaedic Surgeons will travel to three different educational sites and interact with some of the greatest surgeons of AANA.

The Godfather for 2017 is truly one of the great educators, inventors, and leaders of Arthroscopy, Dr. Jack M. Bert. (Get to know Dr. Bert!) What a tremendous educational experience awaits four hungry minds! The host sites for the 2017 Traveling Fellowship will include:

During the Fellowship, it is anticipated that the fellows will have the opportunity to view arthroscopic surgery at the host institutions. They will be invited to participate in a scientific symposium with the host physicians and will attend the AANA Annual Meeting as the guest of the Association.

It is our hope that the AANA Arthroscopy Traveling Fellowship will help foster an exchange of scientific and technical information concerning arthroscopic surgery. It is also anticipated that the social and recreational activities during the fellowship will foster long-standing, personal and professional relationships between the fellows, the godparent and their hosts.

Goals:

  • To provide an opportunity for physicians to observe the leading surgeons in the field of arthroscopy
  • To provide an arena for the exchange of pertinent scientific information
  • To identify new leaders in the field
  • To provide an atmosphere conducive to a camaraderie between the Traveling Fellows and experienced leaders in the field

Fellows can expect:

  • Access to the leading surgeons in the discipline
  • To participate in scientific symposia with host physicians
  • To view state of the art research and surgical facilities
  • To observe surgical procedures
  • To attend the AANA Annual Meeting as guests of AANA
  • To participate in social and cultural experiences in the host communities
  • To form lifetime friendships

Application process:

1. Eligible candidates will be currently practicing in North America.
2. The application must be submitted by November 1, 2016.
3. The tour dates are Sunday, May 7 - Wednesday, May 17, plus attendance at the Annual Meeting (May 18-20, 2017).
4. Application will consist of:

  • Application Form
  • Two Sponsors with letters of recommendation
    • The sponsors should be orthopaedic surgeons who are familiar with your work. If a Special Fellowship has been taken, a letter of recommendation from the Director of the Fellowship should also be submitted. It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure all material and sponsor letters are received by the application deadline.
  • CV
  • Personal Statement that is not to exceed 500 words, detailing why you want to be an AANA Traveling Fellow and what you can offer the Traveling Fellowship Program.
  • Recent Photograph.
  • List of national, regional and local professional medical organization to which you belong
  • List the committee appointments which you have received in the mentioned medical organizations.
  • Describe any non-academic achievements or activities which you believe are important; i.e., civic activities, church, boy scouts, Chamber of Commerce, etc.
  • List the articles that you have published. List the names of the article, journal name, authors, page numbers and the date of publication. Please underline your name and the date of publication. Capitalize the name of the journal.
  • List published abstracts
  • List the textbooks or chapters in textbooks, which you have written or edited. Identify title, publisher and the year.
  • List the manuscripts which have been submitted for publication, identify the article and the journal. Give date of submission.
  • List the research grants which you have received and the source. List all of the authors in their proper sequence and the amount of each grant.
  • Describe clinical and basic research work, which is now in progress.
  • List all of the audio visual programs that you have developed or co-developed. You should also list the scientific meetings where each has been presented.
  • List national, regional and local post graduate courses or meetings, which you have organized or hosted.
  • List scientific presentations which you have made to national meetings. (Include title of paper, organization, location and date.)
  • List scientific presentations of which you were a co-author to a national, regional or local meeting.
